A small grass fire caused by a trailer which broke loose from a pickup on Highway 34 quickly spread from the ditch to a cut ryegrass field today in Lebanon and eventually consumed 10 acres. Firefighters received the initial call at 1:22 pm and upgraded to a second alarm 6 minutes after arriving on scene to bring more resources to the fire. The first arriving unit reported a slow moving ?1/2 acre grass fire, but gusty erratic winds quickly fueled the blaze and pushed it south across the field towards a home. Firefighters were able to cut the fire off just before it reached the home and spent two hours mopping up hot spots. Firefighters from the Tangent Fire District, Albany Fire Department, and Scio Fire District responded to Lebanon to assist with the fire. In all, 16 apparatus and 5 chief officers were on scene including 2 brush units, 4 engines, and 2 water tenders from Lebanon; 1 brush unit and 3 water tenders from Tangent; 1 engine and 1 water t ender from Albany; and 1 engine and 1 water tender from Scio. There were no civilian or firefighter injuries.
