I-5 Carjacking, Dec. 3

Oregon State Police (OSP) are continuing the investigation into a pursuit and attempted carjacking on Interstate 5 northbound near milepost 253 (Mission Street Exit). Preliminary information indicates that on December 2, 2015 at approximately 12:38 p.m. (PST), an OSP Trooper attempted to stop a white Ford Explorer traveling northbound on Interstate 5 near milepost 250 for speeding. A pursuit ensued and the driver of the Ford began to drive recklessly; therefore, the Trooper involved disengaged from pursuing the Ford. A short time later, the Ford exited the Interstate onto exit 253 (Mission Street) where it crashed into a grey Toyota Pickup. The driver of the Ford exited the vehicle, approached an adjacent red Volkswagen passenger car and attempted to carjack that vehicle, resulting in the female driver sustaining a leg injury. As the suspect began to drive the Volkswagen away, Good Samaritans from nearby vehicles slowed the suspect and pulled him from the Volkswagen where an OSP Trooper was able to take the suspect into custody.
