Over 150 Reedsport and Elkton students will participate in the 71st annual Lower Umpqua Tree Plant on the morning of Wednesday, March 30, 2016. Fifth and sixth grade students will learn about forestry and land management while planting Douglas-fir seedlings. The Lower Umpqua Tree Plant is the longest continuous tree planting event in the United States. The tree plant will take place on private timber lands located off Weatherly Creek Road, 22 miles east of Reedsport, Oregon on Highway 38. The Lower Umpqua Tree Plant is hosted by Roseburg Resources Company, Oregon Department of Forestry, Coos Forest Protective Association, Douglas County Forestry Department and the Bureau of Land Management.
