Fake $100 Bills on Oregon Coast, Aug. 26

Seaside Police were summoned to Columbia Bank Wednesday, Aug. 20, to a report of forged $100 bills the bank received. Former Reedsport Police Chief Bob Gross, now Police Chief of Seaside, reported the fake bills were actually washed $1 bills from a 1977 series with serial number G37205781A. The seized bills were cashed at two downtown Seaside businesses. The bills passed the “pen test” because they were washed; however, they did not clear the bank’s sorting machine, which rejected them leading to their discovery.
