Attempted Murder, Oct. 22

News release from the Coos Co. Sheriff’s Office. October 21, 2014 at about 5:10 AM the Coos County Sheriff’s Office was called regarding a stabbing which had occurred in the 95000 block of Sitkum Lane approximately 2 miles east of Myrtle Point. The initial report was a woman had been stabbed and the suspect was still in the home. Officers from Myrtle Point and Coquille Police Departments responded, arriving prior to the deputies. These officers were able to secure the scene and allow medical first responders to enter the scene and assist the injured woman. Officers detained the person of interest, Jason Simons, 37 years old of Myrtle Point. In the investigation officers learned that Cheyenne Workman, 21 of Myrtle Point, a cousin to Mr. Simons had been stabbed multiple times in the abdomen with a large knife. She was transported to Coquille Valley Hospital by Myrtle Point Ambulance where she was undergoing emergency surgery at the time of this writing. Sheriff’s Deputies and Officers from Myrtle Point, Coquille and Coos Bay Police Departments assisted in processing the scene, interviewing witnesses and gathering evidence. Jason Simons was taken into custody on the charge of Attempted Murder and transported to the Coos County Jail where he was being held on $1,000,000.00 bail. The reason for the assault is still under investigation by the Coos County Sheriff’s Office and the District attorney’s Office.
