The Oregon men’s basketball team used its superior athleticism — provided in part by Dwayne Benjamin in his return to action — to overcome an off night shooting from three-point range in a 94-63 victory over Concordia of the NAIA before 4,909 in Matthew Knight Arena on Wednesday. The Ducks (5-2) host Mississippi on Sunday in Matthew Knight Arena (1 p.m. PT, Fox Sports 1), what sets up as Oregon’s premier matchup of the nonconference season.

Junior guard Gary Payton II had his second consecutive double-double and established career-highs for the second game in a row to lead Oregon State to a 74-50 victory over Mississippi Valley State on Wednesday night. Payton had 24 points and 16 rebounds and punctuated an outstanding all-around performance with an emphatic stickback slam dunk as the Beavers (4-2) ended a two-game tailspin with the convincing win over MSVU (1-7) before a Gill Coliseum crowd of 3,656. The Beavers visit Portland at 7 p.m. Saturday in their next game; it will not be televised. Their next home game is 1 p.m. Dec. 13 against Mississippi State.

Marcus Mariota made a little more history Tuesday, becoming the first quarterback in Pac-12 history to be named first-team all-conference three times. The UO quarterback was named Pac-12 offensive player of the year earlier Tuesday. He’s also considered a leading candidate for the Heisman Trophy, among other national awards. Mariota was one of five Ducks named first-team all-Pac-12 for 2014. He was joined by offensive linemen Jake Fisher and Hroniss Grasu, tight end Pharaoh Brown and cornerback Ifo Ekpre-Olomu. Grasu and Ekpre-Olomu joined Mariota as three-time first-team selections. Running back Royce Freeman, defensive end DeForest Buckner, cornerback Troy Hill, safety Erick Dargan and all-purpose back Charles Nelson were named to the second team, the latter for his work on special teams. Freeman and Nelson were two of just three freshmen named to the first or second team. Defensive end Arik Armstead, receiver Byron Marshall, offensive lineman Hamani Stevens and linebacker Joe Walker received honorable mention from the conference.

Seniors Steven Nelson and Dylan Wynn lead a six-member Oregon State football contingent on the Pac-12 All-Conference football team, league commissioner Larry Scott announced Tuesday night. Both were named to the Conference’s Second Team as selected by the 12 league coaches. Nelson, a cornerback, will represent the Beavers in next month’s Senior Bowl All-Star Game. The Warner Robins, Ga., native lettered for the Beavers two years after transferring from the College of the Sequoias. He made 122 total tackles, eight interceptions and 16 pass breakups during his career. Nelson was a Pac-12 Honorable Mention selection last season. Wynn is a four-year letterman defensive end from Concord, Calif. He made 214 total tackles for his career, 54 this season. He also compiled 24.5 career tackles for losses for his stint, including 12 this year. Linebacker Michael Doctor, quarterback Sean Mannion, safety Ryan Murphy and running back Terron Ward each earned Pac-12 Honorable Mention. The Pac-12 record setting quarterback Mannion earned the honor for the second straight season, as did Murphy and Ward.
