A 67-year old Lincoln City male died during a capsizing of a small fishing boat at the entrance to Salmon River on The Central Oregon Coast Monday, April 18. James Earl Thompson went fishing with 45-year old Elaine Harskjold, also of LC, about 9:30 a.m. Their aluminum boat was capsized by a wave at the mouth of the Salmon River, north of Lincoln City, and west of Cascade Head Ranch. Another fisherman heard the two yelling for help and contacted 9-1-1. Two members of the North Lincoln Fire & Rescue water team on Jet Skis located Thompson and took him to shore. He was pronounced deceased at the hospital. Harskjold swam to nearby rocks, but the Jet Skis could not reach her. A US Coast Helicopter from the Newport Day Facility arrived shortly thereafter and hoisted her to safety. She was released later that day from the hospital.
