News release Coos Forest Protective Association. The start of fire season is determined by fire danger levels. There is not a specific date on a calendar. A dry spring can mean an early fire season and a wet spring can delay fire season until nearly July. The south coast on average sees the start of fire season normally around mid-June. With the dry spring we have experienced this year, Coos Forest Protective Association (CFPA) is watching the daily fire danger levels closely and fire season is looking like it may be starting in early June this year. With fire season just around the corner, CFPA wants to remind residents to double check any debris piles they have burned recently to make sure they are completely out. Once fire season begins, debris burning will be cut off. If you have large debris piles left to burn it is better to leave them for fall burning when the wetting rains return to the south coast and fire danger lowers. For more information on fire season and the restrictions that come with it, you can find CFPA on the web at www.coosfpa.net or call the closure line 541-267-17.
