Felony Warrant on Central Coast, Oct. 18

News release Newport PD.  On Saturday, October 15, 2016, Newport Police Sergeant Purdom was traveling westbound on US Highway 20 at milepost 1.5. He observed a silver 1996 Toyota 4-Runner traveling eastbound. The vehicle was operated by 33-year-old Jeremy Franklin Hay of Bend, Oregon. Hay failed to maintain his lane of travel, and struck a guardrail on the south shoulder of the highway. Hay was deflected into the oncoming lane of travel, nearly striking Sgt. Purdom, and his civilian rider from the OSP Crime Lab, head-on. There were no injuries; no other vehicles were impacted as a result of the crash. Hay stated he was distracted at the time of the crash and was “looking down”. Impairment was not believed to be a contributing factor to the crash. A check of Hay’s status revealed his license was suspended, and he had an outstanding Felony Warrant for Parole Violation. Hay was taken into custody and lodged at the Lincoln County Jail. No bail was authorized.
