Southwestern Oregon’s baseball team split a pair of NWAC games with Chemeketa Saturday.  The doubleheader was moved from Salem to Newberg at George Fox University.  The Lakers took the first game 3-2, but dropped the second 3-2 to the Storm.  SWOCC’s softball team swept a pair from visiting Mt. Hood on Sunday in Coos Bay 7-6 & 14-0.  Southwestern (34-7, 34-4) has clinched the South Region of the NWAC and a post season playoff berth.

SWOCC’s men took third place at the Southern Region Track and Field Championships and the Laker women were fourth.  According to coach Dan Neal, “this is the best performance we have had at the Southern regions since I have been the Head Coach. I am very proud of our kids.” Despite terrible weather conditions at the start of the meet the Lakers had several outstanding performances. Kuda Murasiranwa won the 100 meters in 11.03 and placed 6th in the 200 at 22.99. Lincoln Newdall placed 2nd in the Men’s Discus at 135 feet and was 4th in shot at 41 feet. Drae Stark was 3rd in the 110 HH at 15.57 and was 6th in the Long jump at 21’ 7” and 7th in the Triple Jump at 42’ 10”. Cole Kreutzer was 5th in the Triple Jump at 43’ 5”. The 4 X 100 relay team of Drae Stark, Cole Kreutzer, Bryan Hunt and Kuda Murasiranwa ran a 43.87 for 3rd place. The Women were 4th place with good performances coming from Presley LeBlanc running a 27.51 in the 200 for 3rd place and running a 13.4 in the 100 and for 5th place. She also anchored the 4 X 100 relay to a 3rd place finish at 51.25. Other members of the relay team are Alexa Ryan, Alex Lofthouse and Aajua Brooks. Alexa Ryan placed 6th in the Long Jump at 15’ 10” and was 7th in the Triple Jump at32’ 11”. Grace Hermann was 4th in Javelin at 116 feet, she also had a PR in Shot with a throw of 34 feet and 7th place. Aajua Brooks was 4th in the Long Jump at 16’ 8” and placed 6th in the High Jump at 4’ 10”.
