Coos County’s seasonally adjusted September unemployment rate decreased slightly to 4.8 percent from a revised 4.9 percent in August. The rate is below the September 2017 rate (5.6%). Oregon’s seasonally adjusted September unemployment rate was 3.8 percent; the national rate was 3.7 percent. The county’s total payroll employment increased over the month by 240 jobs, reflecting gains in local government education associated with the beginning of the new school year (+200). Coos County added 340 jobs over the year ending in September for a 1.5 percent annual job change. Curry County’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate remained the same as the revised 5.5 percent in August. The rate is below the September 2017 rate of 6.2 percent. Curry County’s total nonfarm payroll employment increased over the month by 40 jobs.
