Marshfield’s girls are ranked No. 1 in the final OSAA 4A Basketball Rankings which were frozen Tuesday night, Feb. 19. The Lady Pirates are the No. 1 seed from District 4 and will have a bye from the Play-In Round and host a playoff game on March 2 with the winner of that game advancing to the OSAA 4A State Tournament in Forest Grove March 7-9. Other top seeds from each of the other districts: Banks (19-5) & Astoria (19-7) are No. 1 & 2 from District 1 (Cowapa League); No. Marion (19-5) & Madras (15-8) are No. 1 & 2 in District 2 (Tri-Valley League); Philomath (21-3) & Stayton (19-4) are tops in District 3 (Oregon West Conference); Marist Catholic (16-8) is No. 2 in District 4 behind the Lady Pirates; Hidden Valley (16-8) & Henley (14-9) are No. 1 & 2 in District 5 (Skyline Conference); and, Baker (21-1) & La Grande (13-8) are No. 1 & 2 in District 6 (Greater Oregon League). Those twelve teams are protected from the first round of the playoffs where Gladstone (11-13) plays at Junction City (15-10); No. Valley (12-11) goes to Newport (15-8); Valley Catholic (12-13) @ Cottage Grove (14-12); and, Seaside (13-13) travels to Molalla (14-10). Those four games will be played on or before Saturday, Feb. 23. The winners will then join the twelve to develop a 16-team bracket with matchups determined by the final rankings.
