SEATTLE — The Coast Guard rescued a 12-year-old boy Monday afternoon, Auguestn 26, stranded on the rocks at Salt Creek Recreation Area in Port Angeles.A Coast Guard Air Station Port Angeles MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew hoisted the boy from the rocks and transported him to safety. At 12:53 p.m., watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Port Angeles received a request from the Washington State Emergency Operations Center on behalf of Clallam County authorities for assistance in rescuing the boy. At 1 p.m., the aircrew launched along with a Coast Guard Station Port Angeles 29-foot Response Boat-Small crew. The aircrew was on scene at 1:38 p.m. and rescued the boy at 1:49 p.m. The helicopter crew transported the boy to emergency medical service technicians waiting at the sports field at Salt Creek Recreation Area. The boy was reported to have no injuries. The Coast Guard encourages parkgoers to be aware of changing tides and currents.
