News release from the Newport PD. On June 17, 2014, at about 9:18 a.m., Newport Police Officers were dispatched to a single-vehicle crash on SW Bayley Street, just east of Hwy 101. Officers arrived to find a 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe had crashed on rolled onto the driver’s side. The single occupant, Keyonda Hernandez, age 28 of Eddyville, Oregon, was trapped inside. Personnel from the Newport Fire Department and PAC-West Ambulance arrived and extricated Hernandez from the vehicle. She was transported to Samaritan Pacific Communities Hospital with apparently minor injuries. During the investigation officers learned Hernandez had been stopped at a stop sign on the west side of the SW Bayley and Hwy 101 intersection. For an unknown reason, Hernandez accelerated quickly east, across five lanes of traffic, onto SW Bayley Street. Her vehicle collided with an unused post standard. The impact and collision with the post standard caused the vehicle to roll onto its side. Officers contacted Hernandez at the hospital, where they began a DUII investigation. Hernandez was cited for Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants, and released. She was treated for minor injuries and discharged from the hospital.
