This local news brief is brought to you by Southwest Oregon Regional Airport www.flyoth.com with air service from North Bend to San Francisco.

Good Wednesday morning.  Hope you had a good “Weekend in the West,” but alas, it is the final one for the month of January 2020.  The “New Year” is already moving along.  Clouds, rain, highs in the 50s and lows not too much lower than that.  Winds from the South to Southwest at 10-15 mph.  Busy weekend for news in our area.  Lots going on.  Sewer overflow downtown Friday night, city officials say it is too much grease in the line from restaurants in the area.  It’s called “FOG.”  Bunch of counterfeit money showed up at Bay Area businesses as well.  Clerks need to be on their toes.  Graffiti attack also in downtown Coos Bay overnight.  If that isn’t enough, how about the anniversary of the “Big One.”  Yes, that big quake is still out there.  Did have an earthquake off Cape Mendocino over the weekend.  Hit the outer fault line which is slightly rare for that area.  Jordan Cove also made the headlines with the removal of one of their fill permit applications.  Expect smoke in the Bay Area, slash burning in the Pony Ck. Watershed this week.  North Bend City Council has a work session today.  Marijuana, public safety ordinance on the agenda. We have the latest on the Flu in Oregon.  ODOT has a report on their “To Do List.”   ODFW seeks a candidate to represent Ocean Fishing Interests.  BACC announce Excellence in Education awards. NB School Board meets tonight, a couple of Executive Sessions are involved. State Marine Board approves rules.  Personal watercraft operations by youth on the report.  BLM has a report on access to public lands.  Historic grants available.  USCG rescues individual in row boat in rough waters.  USCG also rescues a stranded female.  A threat left on the wall of a restroom at JCHS Friday.  Roseburg officials react to “Most Dangerous City” designation.  Speaking about Roseburg, a couple of burglars are nabbed.  Meth bust in Reedsport.  Armed burglar arrested on Central Coast.  Youth bites deputy in Lincoln Co. Empire house fire again.  Lots of entries on the local police logs.  Warrant arrests, DUII, trespassers, and, did you leave something behind at the movies Saturday night?  In sports, prep schedules for the week for both NBHS & MHS.  Also, prep basketball results for the Pirates and Bulldogs.  Swim results from four-way meet at Mingus Friday.  Results of the Bay City Duals wrestling tournament over the weekend.  SWOCC basketball falls at home.  Women’s Civil War all Ducky this year.  Pac-12 men’s basketball a sweep for the Ducks, not as good for the Beavers.  Busy day on the old keyboard, but we got it.  Hope you have a good Monday, and as always thank you for reading.  Feel free to forward to others, it’s a lot of news!    Matt
