Heavy snowfall, wet ground, and big trees. That combination can be deadly for motorists in Oregon. On Dec. 28, about 2 a.m., an ambulance west bound on Hwy. 126W between Florence and Eugene reported a 16-inch diameter tree fell on to the highway at milepost 21 smashing the front of the ambulance. No one was injured. On Monday, Dec. 27, an ODOT worker just made it under a falling fir tree on I-5 in Josephine County. The tree blocked three of the four-lanes of the freeway near Wolf Creek Pass. Again, no one was injured. The tall fir measured 2.5-feet in diameter.
