270 Months in Prison for Florence Male, March 22

Lane Co SO release – On May 29, 2020, at approximately 0038 hours, Lane County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch received a report that a male had been stabbed in the chest while visiting with friends inside of a camp trailer at a property south of Florence. The victim was transported to an area hospital, but succumbed to his injuries. At the time Lane County Detectives and Oregon State Police Detectives were investigating the suspicious death of a female in Junction City that occurred six hours prior. Some of the Detectives were pulled from the Junction City scene and responded to Florence while the others remained working the Junction City case. Ultimately personnel from the Lane County Sheriff’s Office, Douglas County Sheriff’s office, Florence Police Department, and Oregon State Police all responded to assist with the investigation. The suspect, 33 year-old Gregory Dominic Cross, fled the scene following the stabbing. In an effort to locate Cross, K9s were utilized in an extensive search of the area. With the help of a citizen who reported seeing Cross in the area, Cross was and taken into custody approximately one mile from the incident location, and transported to the Lane County Jail. Last week Cross plead guilty to Manslaughter in the First Degree and Hindering Prosecution. On 03/16/22, he was sentenced to serve 270 months in the custody of the Oregon Department of Corrections.
