A second individual has been arrested for the early Sunday morning, June 28, homicide of a 49-year old transient in Coos Bay. According to a news release from Coos Co. District Attorney R. Paul Frasier, The Grand Jury heard evidence Wednesday, June 30, that led to the return of two indictments of Murder. Twenty-eight year old Christopher Joseph Gonzales was arraigned the day before, and now 36-year old Shawn Kristofer Yamate, of Coos Bay, has also been charged in the death of Forest Franklin Martin. His body was found on tidal flats in front of the Empire Waste Water Treatment Plant at S. Empire Blvd. and Fulton Ave. Yamate is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday morning. Both are in custody at the Coos Co. Jail in Coquille.
