Today is the day that a new air connection between North Bend and Denver gets underway at Southwestern Oregon Regional Airport (SORA). Thanks to a Department of Transportation grant for $550,000, a commitment from Bandon Dunes of another $600,000, United Airlines has a revenue guarantee of $1.2 million to operate the two day a week service for the next four months. The connection allows air travelers a direct flight to one of the major air carrier hubs in the Midwest. A special ceremony to welcome the inaugural flight is planned at the airport. Activities with refreshments and more will begin at noon and the first flight is scheduled to arrive by 1:15 p.m.
