On August 9, 2017 at approximately 5:30PM, the Oregon State Police and Oakland Rural Fire District responded to a vehicle fire on the Interstate 5 northbound on ramp at mile marker 140. When troopers arrived they located a 2008 Kia SUV that had been on fire and no one was around the vehicle. The vehicle was later reported to be stolen from Mt. Pisgah Park. The Oregon State Police Arson Unit was contacted and began an investigation, which led to the arrest of 37 year old Nicholas HICKMAN of Springfield, Oregon. On Friday, September 22, 2017, HICKMAN was cited and released for Initiating a False Police Report, Arson in the Second Degree and Attempted Theft in the First Degree.
