News release from the Coos Co. Sheriff’s Office. On April 17, 2015 at about 10:26 PM, Deputies from the Coos County Sheriff’s Office responded to Nesika County Park at 12924 Highway 241, east of Coos Bay for a report of a man who was bleeding severely from his head. Upon arrival Deputies learned that 33 year old Keith Smith, of Coos Bay had been struck in the head with an axe handle during an argument in the park. Mr. Smith was transported from the scene to Bay Area Hospital. The suspect in this case was identified as Christopher Ursynow. Ursynow had left the scene prior to the arrival of Deputies. On April 18, 2015 at about 11:30 AM Coos County Sheriff’s Deputies received a report that the suspect was back at Nesika Park and was leaving the park in a vehicle. The vehicle was located by police and 27 year old Christopher Ursynow of Coos Bay was taken into custody. Mr. Ursynow was charged with Assault II and transported to the Coos County Jail to be booked.
