News release Newport PD. On Sunday, 09/04/2016, at about 2:40 p.m., Newport Police Officers responded to a report of a male that had pointed a replica firearm at employees of CannaMedicine, 157 NWS 15th St. The male had pulled the trigger while making a purchase. Officers located the subject near the O’Reilly Auto Parts Store, located at 1801 N. Coast Highway. The subject was known to Newport Police Officers to be Edmund Louis Charles Day, age 30. Day is a transient, originally from California. When contacted by Officers, Day was still in possession of the replica firearm, along with multiple edged weapons. After initial physical resistance, Day was restrained. Once transported to the Lincoln County Jail, Day became physically combative with Corrections Deputies. Day was further restrained and charged with Menacing; Disorderly Conduct 2nd Degree; Assault on a Public Safety Officer; Interfering with a Peace Officer; Robbery 2nd Degree; Felon in Possession of Weapon; Carry Concealed/Possession of Knife. Day’s bail was set at $250,000.
