On August 2, 2020 at approximately 4:12pm an officer of the Junction City Police Department observed a vehicle traveling north on Ivy Street through town at 57 miles per hour. The vehicle sped out of town, running a red light at 18th Avenue and proceeding toward Harrisburg. The vehicle eventually stopped near McMullen Drive and the driver was taken into custody without incident. The driver was identified as Vergil Lee McGrath of Cheshire. Mr. McGrath was charged with DUII, Reckless Driving and Attempting to Elude Police. It was also discovered that there was an attempt to locate on Mr. McGrath from the Lane County Sheriff’s Office. Mr. McGrath was wanted for Pointing a Firearm at Another X3, Menacing X2, Reckless Endangering X3 and Criminal Mischief 1 X3 stemming from an incident the previous day where he fired multiple rounds at another person. Mr. McGrath was lodged at the Lane County Jail.
