News release Coos Co. Sheriff’s Office. On September 17, 2016, at approximately 0902 hours, Coos County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the Lakeside area to a report of a subject’s vehicle that had been shot. Upon arrival Deputies learned there had been an altercation between George Vass and Steven Varao, in regards to Mr. Vass shooting a nuisance animal. During the argument, Steven Varao’s pulled a firearm and pointed it at Mr. Vass. When Mr. Vass drove off, Steven Varao fired one shot at Mr. Vass, hitting the tailgate of Mr. Vass’s truck. Deputies located Steven Varao at his residence in the Lakeside area and Mr. Varao was arrested for Attempted Murder, Reckless Endangering, Attempted Assault I, Menacing, Pointing a Firearm at another and Unlawful Use of a Weapon. He was transported to the Coos County Jail and booked on the listed charges.
