News release Coos Co. Sheriff’s Office. On August 1, 2016, at about 1216 hours, the Coos County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to respond to the Bull Run region of the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area for a report of a crashed motorcycle. When the Deputy arrived, he found a seventeen year old male who had sustained a suspected head injury. A number of bystanders were rendering aid. The investigation revealed that the motorcycle operator, Tanner Gillespie-Johnson had been traveling south in bull run when he encountered a slip face dune. Mr. Johnson went over the slip face and hit the ground causing him to go over the handlebars, and hit his head. Mr. Johnson’s motorcycle came to rest on top of him. Mr. Johnson was transported by Hauser Fire and Rescue Sand Ambulance off the sand and transferred to Bay Cities Ambulance to Bay Area Hospital.
