News release from the Coos Co. Sheriff’s Office. On 6-29-15 at approximately 1732 hours the Coos County Sheriff’s Office was notified of an injury accident involving an ATV that had struck an Oregon State Police Vehicle head on. The Sheriff’s Office responded to the Bureau of Land Management road, 29-11-20.0 located between Myrtle Point and the Community of Bridge, off of Hwy 42. During the investigation it was determined the ATV [four wheeler] was operated by a James Evans, 41 years of age of Myrtle Point. Mr. Evans was traveling on the BLM road back towards the highway as the Oregon State Police Game Enforcement Trooper was headed up the hill. The collision site consisted of a steep gravel grade, comprised of a sharp turn. While negotiating the corner Mr. Evans struck the front of the OSP pickup truck head on. Mr. Evans was transported to the Coquille Valley Hospital with minor injuries. The Trooper, whose name is being withheld at this time, was not injured. The Coos County Crash Team was activated to assist in investigating the incident. Mr. Evans was cited for careless driving as a result of the investigation.
