“Before the Show Began: Theaters of Oregon” will be presented Tuesday, March 11th at 7 p.m. at Coos Bay Public Library. The public is invited to hear Darrell Jabin discuss his project and show his documentary on historic theaters of Oregon. Coos Bay’s own Egyptian Theater is included in this program. Theaters have always captured our imaginations. Their architecture and lighting have drawn us inside. Their decorative lobbies have let us know something special was about to happen. Award winning videographer/historian Darrell Jabin toured and videotaped dozens of theaters. He researched Opera houses, Vaudeville and Movie Palaces. He interviewed historians, theater owners and directors of community theaters to produce an entertaining video covering the unique architecture, history and culture of Oregon Theaters. Each year, Darrell Jabin travels more than 6000 miles, working in more than 2 dozen cities in our state. He takes advantage of these trips by researching interesting events, history and people and telling about them in videos. He has produced longer videos on Oregon Carousels, Oregon Amusement Parks and 100 Years of Oregon History as seen through the Oregon Blue Book. He has provided over 125 presentations with his videos throughout Oregon over the last four years. This free public event is sponsored by the Friends of Coos Bay Public library.
