BLM Sells 3.5 Million Board Feet of Timber, July 31

The Coos Bay District of the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) sold 3.56 million board feet of timber, worth $301,481 at an oral auction today. The BLM facilitates opportunities for active timber management on our public lands that create local jobs and help local communities grow. Scott Timber Company of Dillard, Ore. was the high bidder for the West Cunningham commercial thin timber sale. The timber is located on Coos Bay Wagon Road lands in Coos County. The money from the sale of this timber is deposited into the Coos Bay Wagon Road grant fund. Each year, Coos and Douglas Counties receive an in-lieu of tax payment from this fund to compensate for the loss of tax revenue from federal lands. The West Cunningham timber sale is one of the nine timber sales BLM will offer during the agency’s 2017 fiscal year. In total, the BLM will offer for sale 30 million board feet of timber in fiscal year 2017. Receipts from all of these sales benefit the 18 western Oregon counties that contain Oregon and California or Coos Bay Wagon Road grant lands.
