News release CBPD.  On Thursday, April 20, 2017, the Coos Bay Police Department investigated a reported residential burglary in the 300 block of 10th Avenue in the Eastside area of Coos Bay.  During the burglary a large gun safe was stolen containing several firearms, watches, and jewelry, as well as other items from inside the home.  Later that night the department received information that 35 year old Coos Bay resident Beau Stemen was responsible for the burglary.  Officers obtained a search warrant to search Stemen’s residence, located at 209 Merchant Avenue, which is also located in the Eastside area of Coos Bay.  The search warrant was executed on the residence at 12:30 pm on April 21st, and Coos Bay officers were assisted in the search warrant by members of the Coos County Emergency Response Team, Oregon State Police, Coquille Tribal Police, and South Coast Interagency Narcotics Team.  As a result of the search several of the firearms, watches, jewelry, and other items were recovered from inside Stemen’s residence.  Stemen was arrested for a probation violation and transported to the Coos County Jail, as was another resident of the home, 35 year old Michael Weathers.  A third subject, Richard Sweider, was arrested and transported to the Coos County Jail for an unrelated warrant out of Josephine County.  Four other occupants of the residence were interviewed, but were not taken into custody at this time.  The burglary is still under investigation, and criminal charges will be forwarded to the Coos County District Attorney at the conclusion of the investigation.  There are still four shotguns and the gun safe that have not yet been recovered, as well as some additional items stolen during the burglary.  Anyone with information on the burglary or the location of the stolen shotguns are encouraged to call the Coos Bay Police Department at 541-269-8911.
