Lifesaving Award to CCSO Deputy
CCSO release – Date / Time: November 7, 2023; Marine Deputy Robert Baker receives lifesaving award for his actions on Tenmile Lake in July 2023. On July 14, 2023, Coos County Sheriff’s Marine Deputy Robert Baker was conducting a routine patrol of Tenmile Lake in Lakeside, when he encountered a capsized sailboat with the single occupant struggling to cling to the side of the vessel, obviously in distress. Deputy Baker aided the man, who was not wearing a personal flotation device or dressed for the incident, and brought him to safety.  Had Deputy Baker not been on patrol in the area and taken quick action by removing the man from the cold water, the man very well could have drowned.  On November 7, 2023, Deputy Baker was recognized by the Oregon State Marine Board with a lifesaving award for his actions that day. The award was presented before the Board of Commissioners by Marine Board Member Val Early and Marine Board Director Larry Warren.
