Two Newport residents were arrested Tuesday when Lincoln Interagency Narcotics Team (LINT) detectives, assisted by Newport Police Department and Oregon State Police, served search warrants at two locations and seized a large quantity of heroin and methamphetamine, firearms, and a large amount of currency. On the morning of March 25, 2014, LINT detectives served a search warrant in the 400 block of SW 7th Street in Newport. A search of a residence led to the seizure of evidence related to the delivery and possession of heroin, along with a firearm and a large amount of currency. An occupant of the residence, GIANG HOANG LE, age 36, was not there but officers learned LE was staying at another residence in the same complex. Officers contacted the residence where they believed LE was at and found him and his girlfriend, BRITTNEY MARIE WOOD, age 24. LINT detectives obtained a search warrant for the second residence at the complex. A search was conducted with the assistance of a Newport police K-9 team and detectives seized approximately 3 ounces of methamphetamine, one ounce of heroin, and other evidence including two loaded handguns. Over $20,000 cash was also seized associated with the investigation. Over the past several months, LINT detectives received information that LE was selling methamphetamine and heroin in the Newport area. LE and WOOD were taken into custody by LINT detectives and lodged in the Lincoln County Jail on the following charges: GIANG HOANG LE, * Unlawful Manufacture, Delivery and Possession of a Controlled Substance – Methamphetamine; * Unlawful Manufacture, Delivery and Possession of a Controlled Substance – Heroin; * Felon in Possession of a Firearm.
