A Waldport-area mother and her infant child were injured Sunday afternoon in a single vehicle traffic crash on Highway 34 about fourteen miles east of Waldport. Oregon State Police (OSP) is continuing the investigation in which driver fatigue is a possible contributing factor. On March 9, 2014 at approximately 5:15 p.m., a 2007 Ford Fusion driven by CHANDA WALL, age 26, from Waldport, was westbound on Highway 34 near milepost 14 negotiating a left curve when she fell asleep. The car traveled onto the westbound shoulder as WALL awoke and over-corrected, causing the car to spin across the eastbound lane and rolling at least once. CHANDA WALL and her 3-week old daughter were injured. CHANDA WALL was transported by Central Coast Fire & Rescue ground ambulance to Samaritan Pacific Communities Hospital with serious injuries. Her daughter was also taken to that hospital and then transported by REACH air ambulance to Legacy Emanuel Medical Center where she is reported as stable. CHANDA WALL was improperly using her safety restraint with only the shoulder strap utilized. The child was properly restrained in a rear-facing child safety seat.
