A Coast Guard Air Station Astoria MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew rescued a man injured in a logging accident near Neskowin, Tuesday, on the North Oregon Coast. The Jayhawk crew traveled approximately 63 miles, successfully hoisted the man aboard the helicopter and brought him to Samaritan North Lincoln Hospital in Lincoln City where he was met by local emergency medical services for advanced medical care. Coast Guard Sector Columbia River watchstanders were contacted in the early afternoon by personnel from the Air Force Rescue Coordination Center after they received the request for help, but due to the location of the man, local emergency responders were unable to reach him. “The location of this man made any other type of rescue difficult,” said John Dodd, command duty officer, Sector Columbia River. “Thanks to the professionalism of our crewmembers combined with the hoist capability of our assets, we were able to get this man to the help he needed as quickly as possible.” The injured man was reportedly transferred to EMS in stable condition.
