Coast Guard suspends search for missing man near Port Orford, Jan. 27

The U.S. Coast Guard has suspended the search for a missing man near Paradise Point in Port Orford, as of Monday, Jan. 26. Crews searched for the man for nine hours, covering more than 169 miles without locating the man. “Our thoughts go out to the families and loved ones affected by this misfortune,” said Chief Warrant Officer Alfredo Rivera, the command center supervisor at Sector North Bend. “Calling off a search is one of the hardest decisions search and rescue personnel have to make.” Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector North Bend received a call from Curry County 911 operators around 1:45 p.m. Sunday stating three people were in the water after their 24-foot pleasure craft capsized. It was further reported that two of the boaters made it to shore safely, prompting the search for the third boater. Curry County Sheriff’s Department personnel reportedly searched along the beach using all-terrain vehicles with no sightings Monday morning. The search is suspended pending further developments.
