Report from the City of Coos Bay. The Coos Bay City Council passed an ordinance prohibiting smoking in and on the lot of the Coos Bay Library facility. The ordinance passed with a 5 to 2 vote. Voting aye were Stephanie Kramer, Mark Dailey, Jennifer Groth, Tom Leahy and Brian Bowers. Voting nay were Mike Vaughan and Mayor Shoji. The request came to the Council from the Library Board of Trustees. The Board of Trustees indicated that smoking close to the building has created a nuisance with smoke and cigarette butts. Library Board Chair Bruce Bennett states, “The Library Board expressed concerns about smoke coming into the building, cigarette butts around the building, and people hanging out around the library to smoke.”
