Curry County Sheriff John Bishop has announced that he will resign from office in September due to the constant strain of trying to operate an underfunded department.  The 52-year old, who became sheriff in 2008, says his health has become a concern and he has decided to accept a position of Executive Director of the Oregon State Sheriff’s Association.  Curry County has been struggling financially since the loss of federal timber receipts. When Bishop took over the office on the South Oregon Coast, he had 16 deputies.  Today there are six.
