News release Coos Bay School District. The Coos Bay School District Board of Directors is pleased to announce that three finalists have been selected for further consideration to be the district’s next Superintendent beginning July 1, 2016. Superintendent Dawn Granger will finish her time in the district on June 30, 2016. The Board and a screening committee of staff and community thoroughly reviewed a strong applicant field of 27 candidates and the Board conducted initial interviews with several candidates. The three finalists are: Kevin T. Bogatin – Kevin Bogatin has been the Assistant Superintendent in the Corvallis School District since 2010 with a student population of about 6,600. His other administrative experience includes serving as an elementary principal in the Lebanon School District for 6 years and one year as Associate High School Principal also in Lebanon. Before becoming an administrator, he was an elementary teacher in the Beaverton School District and Chandler Unified School District in Chandler, Arizona. Bogatin has a Master’s degree in Education Administration from the University of Phoenix and a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from the University of Northern Iowa. Jody L. O’Mara – Since 2012, Jody O’Mara has been the Superintendent and Elementary Principal for the Mapleton School District in Mapleton, Oregon with a student enrollment of 160. Before Mapleton, she was an elementary principal in the Coos Bay School District for 5 years. Her middle school and elementary teaching experience was in the Siuslaw School District and the Roseburg School District. O’Mara has a Masters of Education in Educational Leadership from the University of Oregon and a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Western Oregon University. Bryan W. Trendell – For the past year Bryan Trendell has been the Principal at Millacoma School in the Coos Bay School District. At Coos Bay he has also served as Assistant Principal at the high school for 6 years and other building administrative positions. His teaching experience was in middle school at Coos Bay and high school in the Dallas School District in Dallas, Oregon. Trendell has a Masters of Education in Educational Leadership from Lewis & Clark College and a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education from Western Oregon University. The Coos Bay School Board will now begin thorough background and reference checks. While the background and reference checks are underway, the Board will bring the finalists to the district for an opportunity to meet with staff and community on Thursday, May 12, 2016. Community Involvement Opportunities – The community will have the opportunity to meet and ask questions of each candidate between 5:00 and 8:00 PM on Thursday at Heritage Hall in the main gym on Marshfield High School’s campus. The first candidate will be available 5:00 -5:45. The second from 6:00 – 6:45 and the third from 7:00 – 7:45. The Board will also conduct a second interview with each finalist in executive session to finish the visit. The Board expects to announce the next steps in the superintendent search soon.
