The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) announced Monday, May 9, that it has extended its deadline to re-consider an earlier decision to not issue a permit for the proposed Jordan Cove Energy Development Project on the Coos Bay North Spit. Veresen, Canadian company, is proposing to export liquefied natural gas (LNG) transmitted a pipeline from Malin, in South Central Oregon, to the terminal in Coos Bay. FERC initially rejected the request for a permit citing a lack of demonstrated need for the LNG. Following that announcement, Veresen announced that it has signed customers for up to fifty-percent of the gas produced for Asia. Company officials say the extension will allow them more time to sign up more customers.
