Coos Co. Primary Election 2020, May 20

A total of 21,454 ballots were cast for the May 19, 2020 Primary Election in Coos County according to officials at the Courthouse in Coquille. Joe Biden got the Democratic nod for President with 69.84% of the vote. Fourth District Congressman Peter DeFazio (D-Springfield) will face Republican challenger Alek Skarlatos this fall in the race for the US House of Representatives. Former KCBY reporter/anchor Mark Hass won the Democratic vote for Oregon Secretary of State out of Coos County, 38.55% to Shernia Fagan’s 37.12%. Melissa Cribbins won the Democratic vote for State Senator, she will face Republican Dick Anderson this Fall for the seat to replace retired Senator Arnie Roblan. Cal Makumoto (64.54%) beat Mark Daily (33.30%) for the Democratic race for State Representative 9th District. Incumbent Bob Main had the most votes for Coos County Commissioner Position 1. Main with 40.01%, while Katy Eymann had 26.89% of the vote. Coos County voters approved a local option tax to replace 911 radios 62.09% to 37.91%. Voters in North Bend said Yes (62.09%) to a Charter Amendment requiring a vote for fees, and also said yes (58.09%) to reducing the current Safety Fee.
