ATV Accident
News release from the Coos Co. Sheriff’s Office. “On 11-13-13 at about 10:54 AM, the Coos Bay 911 Center received a call from a male who was on a boat out at sea. The caller was advising that he had received a call from his wife reporting to him that she had been involved in an ATV accident east of Fairview, was injured and was trapped under her 4 wheeler. The information was passed on to Coquille Ambulance, Fairview Fire and Coos County Sheriff’s Office who responded. At about 12:45 PM First Responder personnel got to the victim’s location, approximately 4 miles past the end of Fairview Road, past a locked Menasha gate, east of Laverne Park, Coquille. They found 46 year old, Coquille resident Carol Hansen, pinned under her 4 wheeler, down an embankment off the logging road. It appeared that Ms. Hansen had suffered injuries to her pelvic area when the 4 wheeler she was operating slid off the roadway, flipping over and pinning her against a tree. First Responders had to extricate her from under the ATV, move her up to the roadway and then transport her by a second ATV, side by side, to a landing zone area where she was flown to Bay Area Hospital by Airlift Ambulance service out of North Bend. Ms. Hansen was extremely lucky in the fact that the area where she was located was the only area to have any cell service for miles around. Sheriff’s Deputies learned from Menasha personnel that Ms. Hansen had been warned earlier about trespassing on Menasha property. The investigation will be turned over to the Coos County DA’s Office for consideration of possible Criminal Trespass charges.”
