On March 30, 2017 at approximately 10:20am, OSP was dispatched to a serious injury crash involving two vehicles. The crash occurred near the entrance to the Sunrise Lodge on Mount Bachelor which is on Hwy 372 near milepost 21. Preliminary investigation revealed a gray 2002 Suzuki SUV, occupied by three, was traveling westbound on SR 372 near milepost 21 when the driver lost control of his vehicle on the snow/ice covered roadway. The vehicle went into the path of a white 2005 Chevrolet Express Van that was traveling eastbound. The driver of the Suzuki SUV, a 39 year old male from Eugene, Oregon was seriously injured as a result of the crash and had to be extricated from the vehicle. The driver’s two children, both males ages 11 and 16, accompanied him in the vehicle. The 11 year old male was critically injured and died during transport to the hospital. The surviving 16 year old male sustained moderate injuries. Bend Fire & Rescue transported all occupants to Saint Charles Medical Center in Bend, Oregon. Next of kin notifications have been made. The Chevrolet Express van was driven by Stephen Richardson, age 60 from Bend, Oregon. Richardson sustained minor injuries and was also transported by Bend Fire & Rescue to St. Charles Medical Center in Bend, Oregon.
