On Sunday, November 27, 2016, at approximately 11:50 AM, a deputy observed a red 1999 Honda Civic fail to stop at a stop sign. The deputy then recognized the vehicle as one previously reported as stolen to the Roseburg Police Department. The deputy attempted to conduct a traffic stop at Melrose Road and Colonial Road, at which point the driver accelerated. The deputy pursued the vehicle into the 1000 block of Colonial Road where the driver of the Honda lost control and crashed. The driver then fled from the vehicle on foot. The deputy was able to capture the driver approximately 1000 yards from the vehicle. The driver was identified as Rodolfo Loera, age 27. Loera had a female passenger in the vehicle who was transported to Mercy Medical Center for evaluation. She was later discharged with no injuries. Loera was lodged at the Douglas County Jail on charges of Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle, Attempt to Elude a Police Officer in a Vehicle, Attempt to Elude a Police Officer on Foot, Possession of a Stolen Vehicle, Reckless Driving, Recklessly Endangering Another Person, and Criminal Mischief II.
