Douglas Co. Sheriff’s Office, Nov. 16

After nearly 30 years of service, Captain Dwes Hutson has retired from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office. Captain Hutson began his law enforcement career in 1982 as a Reserve Police Officer with the City of Jacksonville in Oregon. In 1987, Captain Hutson was hired as a Patrol Deputy with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office. During his tenure, Captain Hutson held the ranks of Deputy, Detective, Corporal and Captain. In addition to his normal duties, Captain Hutson served as a member of the Tactical Response Team (TRT), Field Training Officer and Accident Reconstructionist. Captain Hutson, perhaps, is most notably known as the Public Information Officer for the Sheriff’s Office over the last 13 years. He has been the face of our department sharing news and the operations of our office during that time. His level of professionalism, dedication and commitment to the community has served us well. Captain Hutson says he is proud to call Douglas County his home and is looking forward to continuing to contribute to the community in other areas. Additionally, he is excited at the ability to spend more time with his family. Captain Hutson will remain on staff in a full-time capacity until the end of December. In the meantime, he will work closely with Sergeant Brad O’Dell, who has been chosen to replace him. Sgt. O’Dell has experience in several aspects of public safety to include Police, Fire, EMS and 9-1-1 Communications. Sergeant O’Dell has grown up in Douglas County and is excited to represent the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office in this position. Please help us in wishing Captain Hutson an enjoyable retirement.
