News release from the Newport PD.  On June 27, 2014 the Newport Police Department, assisted by the Lincoln Interagency Narcotics Team (LINT), served a narcotics-related search warrant at 8725 SW Abalone, South Beach, Oregon, and arrested two people suspected of selling drugs from the location. During service of the warrant and subsequent search of the residence, officers located Heroin, Methamphetamine, drug packaging materials, digital scales, and other evidence of drug use and sales.  This search warrant was obtained by a Newport Police Department Police Officer after he conducted a nearly month-long investigation, which included him being contacted by several concerned citizens, and following leads. The Newport Police Department was assisted at the scene by the Lincoln Interagency Narcotics Team (LINT), that helped search the residence and conduct follow-up interviews.  Jamie M. Purcell, age 25 of South Beach, was taken into custody and charged with Delivery of a Controlled Substance–Methamphetamine; Possession of a Controlled Substance–Methamphetamine; Manufacture of a Controlled Substance–Methamphetamine; Delivery of a Controlled Substance–Heroin; Possession of a Controlled Substance –Heroin; Manufacture of a Controlled Substance–Heroin; and Frequenting/Maintaining a Place Where Controlled Substances are Kept or Used. Her bail was set at $800,000.00.  Devon Hays, age 23 of South Beach, was taken into custody and charged with Delivery of a Controlled Substance–Methamphetamine; Possession of a Controlled Substance–Methamphetamine; Manufacture of a Controlled Substance–Methamphetamine; Delivery of a Controlled Substance–Heroin; Possession of a Controlled Substance –Heroin; Manufacture of a Controlled Substance–Heroin; and Frequenting/Maintaining a Place Where Controlled Substances are Kept or Used. His bail was set at $800.000.00.  The Newport Police Department would like to encourage citizens to report any suspicious activity they witness, as it may assist law enforcement.
