On September 17, 2016, at about 6:45 p.m., Newport Police Officers were dispatched to the intersection of SW 2nd St. and SW Coast St. on a non-injury motor vehicle crash. Upon arrival, Officers spoke with witnesses and identified the driver as Jonathan Hegstrom Coulsey, age 46 of Oregon City. He had been operating a 2012 Audi sedan westbound on SW 2nd St. He accelerated as he made a northbound turn onto SW Coast St., losing control of the vehicle on the wet pavement. Coulsey impacted the rear of an unoccupied, parked 1996 Mitsubishi Eclipse. The Eclipse sustained significant damage as the back of the vehicle was pushed up over the curb, and onto the sidewalk. Coulsey displayed signs of impairment, and was taken into custody. At the Lincoln County Jail, his blood alcohol level was .14%. Coulsey was charged with DUII; Reckless Driving; and Criminal Mischief 2nd Degree. His bail was set at $45,000.
