News release from the Lincoln Co. Sheriff’s Office. “On March 7, 2014 at approximately 10:10am, Lincoln County Sheriff’s Deputy Lance Cummings was dispatched to a single vehicle traffic crash on Yaquina Bay Road near Milepost 4.2, east of Newport, Oregon. Upon arrival, Deputy Cummings discovered a blue 2008 Mitsubishi Galant sedan partially submerged in an estuary off the side of the road. Deputy Cummings also observed a severly damaged utility pole and power lines hanging extremely low over the roadway. Deputy Cummings contacted the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, 29 year old Toledo Resident Nemoria L. Villagomez at the scene. Ms. Villagomez stated she was traveling westbound on Yaquina Bay Road when she lost control of her vehicle in a curve causing her to strike a utility pole before coming to rest in the estuary off the side of the road. During contact with Ms. Villagomez, Deputy Cummings detected signs of impairment. Ms. Villagomez was offered field sobriety tests and failed. She was subsequently arrested and transported to the Lincoln County Jail where she refused to take a breath test. During the booking process, Ms. Villagomez was found to be in possession of prescription medications without a prescription. Ms. Villagomez was lodged at the jail for DUII, Reckless driving, Criminal mischief in the first degree, and Unlawful possession of a prescription medication. She was also issued a citation for breath test refusal. Her bail was set at $95,000. The Oregon State Police, PacWest Ambulance, and Newport Fire Department assisted at the scene. The Central Lincoln PUD responded to repair the damaged utility pole. Yaquina Bay Road was closed to all traffic for several hours and reduced to one lane with flaggers well into the night. Speed and impairment were identified as contributors to the crash.”
