On July 11, 2017, at approximately 3:30PM, Oregon State Police Troopers from The Dalles Area Command responded to a single motor vehicle crash on I-84 near milepost 118 in Gilliam County. The preliminary investigation showed that a gray 1996 Honda Civic 4 door, operated by 22 year old Effie P. BURNS, of Gresham, was west bound in the fast lane and lost control of her vehicle. The vehicle crossed the slow lane and left the roadway, coming to rest against a dirt/rock embankment. BURNS was ejected from the vehicle and emergency personnel attempted life saving measures, but BURNS succumbed to her injuries. An infant child passenger that was properly secured in a child safety seat was not injured. The child was transported to Mid-Columbia Medical Center in The Dalles with minor injuries to be evaluated.
