News release from the Coos Co. Sheriff’s Office. On July 10, 2015, at approximately 0751 hours, Coos County Sheriff’s Office Deputies, Coquille Police Officers and Myrtle Point Police Officers responded along with Coquille and Myrtle Point Fire Departments to the report of a structure fire at 54287 Old Highway 42, Myrtle Point, Coos County, OR. The fire accelerated quickly through the residence and the structure was determined to be a total loss. The two 65-year-old residents, Judith Bitner and her husband William Bitner II, were located deceased inside the residence along with their pets. Oregon State Fire Marshalls responded and found the cause of the fire to be undeterminable. The Coos County Deputy Medical Examiner determined the cause of death to be smoke inhalation. Accordingly, the Coos County Sheriff’s Office does not believe there to be any criminal involvement.
