OSU release – CORVALLIS – Future Oregon State gymnast Jade Carey has advanced to the event finals for both the vault and the floor exercise after her performances in the qualifying round on Sunday. Carey posted a vault score of 15.166, the second-best in the competition, and notched the third-best floor mark with a score of 14.100. She will now advance to compete in the final for the vault at 1 a.m. PT on Aug. 1. The floor final will be held at 1 a.m. PT on Aug. 2. Carey’s all-around score of 56.265 was the ninth-highest in the qualification round, but she narrowly missed qualification for the all-around finals as two other Americans finished ahead of her (a maximum of two athletes per federation can advance to event finals). Carey punched her ticket to Tokyo via individual qualification. She earned her place with impressive performances at four World Cup competitions between 2018 and 2019. Her accomplishments over that stretch were highlighted by gold-medal performances on vault and floor at both the 2019 FIG Individual Apparatus World in Baku, Azerbaijan and the 2019 FIG World Cup in Doha, Qatar.
