North Bend’s boys and Marshfield’s girls both took over sole possession of first place in the 4A Far West basketball league with wins Friday night at the Pirate Palace in Coos Bay. The Lady Pirates downed the Bulldogs 53-39 handing North Bend its first league loss. Douglas won at So. Umpqua 47-18 to move into a tie for second with North Bend. On Saturday, defending league champ Brookings-Harbor got its first win with a 70-53 decision over Siuslaw in Florence. The boys game between Marshfield and North Bend was close throughout before the Bulldogs pulled away late and won 38-35. Douglas moved into a tie for second with the Pirates after the Trojans won at So. Umpqua 50-47. On Saturday in Florence, Siuslaw rallied from a half-time deficit to beat visiting Brookings-Harbor 42-39 in overtime. Round four is Tuesday. On the boy’s schedule, North Bend (3-0, 12-4) travels to Brookings-Harbor (0-3, 6-10), Marshfield (2-1, 8-9) travels to So. Umpqua (0-3, 9-8) and Douglas (2-1, 6-8) goes to Siuslaw (2-1, 7-9). On the girl’s side, North Bend (2-1, 10-6) at Brookings-Harbor (1-2, 9-7), Marshfield (3-0, 12-5) at So. Umpqua (0-3, 4-13) and Douglas (2-1, 8-6) at Siuslaw (1-2, 6-10).
